Some of the Best Casino Movies of All Time

Most of enjoy watching a good movie and a lot of us also enjoy having a bet or wager on our favorite game, when you mix the two together then it’s certain that you are going to be in for a great time, especially if you choose to play at a site like FruityKing which not only offers some of the best movie themed games on the grid but also a full range of other games including those exciting live games which are about as close as you are going to get to playing in a real land-based casino!

Because of the glitz, glamor and intrigue of casino life directors are naturally drawn to casinos for their productions whether that is to set the whole movie about casino life or to use a scene or two to add that flavor, whichever is used there is no doubt that the mix works well.

A Few of the Best:

Rounders

Take one young Matt Damon who plays an entrepreneur paying for his university fees by winning at the poker table and you just know you are in for a great movie. Actually Rounders is jam-packed full of famous faces like Edward Norton and John malkovich both making appearances - but what really makes this film uber exciting is the amazing high-stakes game where Malkovich plays the seemingly undefeatable poker baron that Mr. Damon must try to defeat. The reality of this movie is helped along with some great descriptions of poker strategy as well as some great table talk that not so many other gambling movies include.

21

This modern classic of its genre is based on a true story. The movie is set in the era before online gambling had become as popular as it is with Kevin Spacey as a maths professor training up a group of his very talented students in the art of counting cards. Taking place in the big casinos on the Vegas Strip, 21 really manages to get the adrenaline pumping with tales of betrayal, trickery and hedonism that sends your mind reeling, all the more so as it actually happened.

The Sting

One of the golden oldies of the casino movie genre is The Sting which stars that great duo of Paul Newman and Robert Redford, two con men, one a beginner the other a professional. This starring duo target a high-flying criminal boss who enjoys a bet himself and who is also after Redford from the start because of a previous swindle he pulled off. The Sting is full of twists and turns as the ‘long con’ gains in its complexity and the danger levels increase substantially until the movie's culmination - still one of the best suspense-filled thrillers in this genre.

Finally, the “Bond” Addition

Which casino movie list, no matter how short, would not include a Bond movie? There are two versions of Ian Flemmings classic Casino Royale but for many Bond fans the most accomplished is directors Martin Campbell’s version which stars Daneil Craig, who incidentally was not the choice of many Bond fans' idea of how he should be portrayed.  Set at the usual break-neck speed we have come to love in the Bond movies the story follows our agent as he takes on the torture-inflicting, poker playing villan Le Chiffre with an incredible scene and showdown set in Monte Carlo when Bond takes on his nemesis in an all or nothing game.

Casino

Another movie classic well worth the viewing is Casino which is the firm favorite of many and no wonder as Martin Scorsese managed to create something quite special starring Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci and the seductive charms of Sharon Stone. A tale of mob-controlled casino gambling in Vegas has given rise to some truly memorable quotes on love, life and of course gambling.
