MEDIA APPEARANCE: David Ehrlich's IndieWire Critics Survey on December 10, 2018

Notable and notorious IndieWire film critic David Ehrlich recently put out a social media call for film critic peers to join a weekly survey to discuss movie topics, answer questions, and highlight their work.  Representing Every Movie Has a Lesson, I, along with over 60 other emerging and established film critics including some of my fellow Chicago Independent Film Critics Circle members, accepted the invitation to participate.  I'm honored by the opportunity, and I hope my responses are chosen each week.

THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: What 2018 movie was everyone else wrong about?

This was a tough question this week. Do I find an under-seen hidden gem that deserved more praise from critics or do I cite a film that was over-praised and put on a pedestal that was too high? After teaming up with Feelin’ Film Podcast buddy Aaron White to kind of do the first route for Hearts Beat Loud, I went with the second choice. Had I seen The Favourite in time, this choice may have been different. I settled on Paul Fieg’s messy wannabe and cheese-covered erotic gumshoe flick A Simple Favor. Read my rationale and article excerpt below.
