MEDIA APPEARANCE: David Ehrlich's IndieWire Critics Survey on November 5, 2018

Notable and notorious IndieWire film critic David Ehrlich recently put out a social media call for film critic peers to join a weekly survey to discuss movie topics, answer questions, and highlight their work.  Representing Every Movie Has a Lesson, I, along with over 60 other emerging and established film critics including some of my fellow Chicago Independent Film Critics Circle members, accepted the invitation to participate.  I'm honored by the opportunity, and I hope my responses are chosen each week.

THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: Which current movie franchise should be put out of our misery once and for all?

Now this is the kind of survey question that opens the doors to a raving rant and the full article of submissions did not disappoint. I was surprised that, given the tenuous animosity that exists in a large enough subsection of audience, that the DCEU wasn’t picked, but the MCU was. Also, no one picked the anthology-stacking Star Wars. As for me, I knew where my vote was going. The painful memory of my zero-star review of Minions is a scar that never goes away. I gave the Despicable Me series my death sentence for the survey. Enjoy the article!
