EVENT: FAN EXPO Chicago 2022 Celebrates Golden Anniversary July 7-10

Fifty years ago, the Nostalgia ‘72 show in Rosemont, Illinois changed fan shows for comic lovers. It was the first such convention gathering for the Midwest. Over the years since, it has changed its name and its profile. What was last Wizard World Chicago is now FAN EXPO Chicago and it’s returning to the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center for its biggest show to date. The event runs July 7 to July 10 and tickets are still available.

AWARDS: Winners for the 5th Annual Hollywood Critics Association Awards

Last night, the Hollywood Critics Association, founded by Scott Menzel, bestowed their fifth annual film awards in Los Angeles at the Avalon Hollywood. I am a newly elected member of this fine group and I’m endlessly impressed by the quality, impact, and diversity of this year’s winners. CODA was the Best Picture recipient next to acting winners Andrew Garfield, Kristen Stewart, Troy Kotsur, and Ariana DeBose. The HCA put on an excellent event. Someday, you’ll find me at that awards show covering them in person! Someday!

SPECIAL: Winners for the sixth annual Chicago Indie Critics Awards

After leading the field with nine nominations, The Power of the Dog emerged as the top winner with three CIC awards. The Netflix western drama won for Best Studio film and earned three trophies for Jane Campion, one as a producer of the film and the other two for her direction and adaptation of Thomas Savage’s novel. In the other top tier, the heartwarming AppleTV+ film CODA won for Best Independent Film.
